Each booklet in the Growing Faith Project
provides a complete treatment of Catholic teachings on its topic. The material is presented in plain English. Es disponible en español también. It is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and has an Imprimatur.
This booklet summarizes articles 1691 thru 1748 of The Catechism of the Catholic Church and the main points include:
► Endowed with a spiritual soul, with intellect and with free will, the human person is from his or her very conception ordered to God and destined for eternal happiness.
► We are obliged to follow the moral law, which urges us "to do what is good and avoid what is evil." This law makes itself heard in our conscience.
► The Beatitudes take up and fulfill God's promises from Abraham on by ordering them to the Kingdom of heaven. They respond to the desire for happiness that God has placed in the human heart.
► The right to the exercise of freedom, especially in religious and moral matters, is an inalienable requirement of human dignity. But the exercise of freedom does not entail the right to say or do anything one pleases.
